Filming Complete

I have completed all the filming for my 2 minute opening film. Today i filmed the underpass scene which was quite a challenge due to the number of cars driving through the underpass and also the weather wasn't great. However now i can start editing the second half of my film from home computer on Sony Vegas Pro so that i am ready to do the time freeze effect at school.

Gunshot Practice (Sound & Muzzle Flash)

Here is a video of a practice gunshot i did and added the muzzle flash and used the sound effects on SoundtrackPro to create the effect that i will use in my film.

Progression

During the last week and weekend i have:
  • Made a final decision on the copyright free music i will be using in my film.
  • Set this upcoming Saturday as the final filming day for me and my actors.
  • Fully edited and rendered the complete second half of my film. (Beach & Graveyard Scene)
  • Fully planned and learnt all effects and camera shots i will be using for the next part of the film.
Hopefully, after the upcoming weekend i will have filmed and edited all of the Underpass scene and i will be ready to add the final effect to my film, the time freeze effect.

Titles

Today i started making my titles for my two minute opening film on Adobe After Effects ands Motion. I have decided to use a font that i download off dafont.com called Sinking Ship which i think will go well with my film as it is bold and represents graffiti and street writing. I am going to incorporate this font with a specific title effect on motion which i hope will be visually striking to the audience.

Weekend Filming Part 1

Last weekend I filmed the graveyard scene for my film. It was a success as i got everything for the specific scene filmed. However after viewing them on the computer I noticed I had made some camera errors and due to the rain that day, rain droplets had appeared on my camera and overlapped all my footage. Therefore I am going to re film the scene this weekend and it was not a wasted experience as i now know exactly how to carry out the filming for this scene.

Storyboard

During the past couple of weeks i have been working on my storyboards for my two minute opening of my movie. Both storyboards are complete with the first storyboard being roughly drawn stick figures and the second is the properly drawn and detailed storyboard. I completed both of them yesterday and I am now certain about my film and i can begin filming for it this weekend. I will upload the storyboards when i have scanned them.

Music Video Exercise

Today in class we were split up into two groups and were asked to reenact the first minute of the music video Tenacious D - Tribute. The reason for the exercise was to ensure that we knew the reasons behind the different camera angles and shots used in the music video.

Planning - Lesson 1

Yesterday was the start of the planning stage for my project. In class I told the rest of the class my ideas for my film. I told the rest of the class that my film was going to be of the urban drama genre. I told the class that my film was not going to be a typical gang shooting and drug dealing film, I wanted to make my film unique and different. My idea for the basic plot is basically about a teenager who has left a gang due to the shooting of his brother and seeking retribution and justice for his brothers death. Also we would witness the when the brother was killed and when the main actor finds the killer. I told the class my ideas and the majority of them liked my idea but told me that the type of music i would use is key. They also suggested that I have a clear mindset of my target audience, the actors I am going to use and the locations. This is my main idea and i am still open to chop and change idea if i feel a different scene will work with the scenario.

Branchage International Film Festival 2010

On the 23rd of September i visited the Spiegeltent hosting the Branchage film festival in Jersey. It was an inspiring experience as the producer of Kidulthood was there to talk about his experiences. I found this useful as the film is the genre of urban drama which is what i am choosing for my opening scene. Menhaj Huda talked about some specific scenes from Kidulthood and explained how he chose the cast for specific roles and where he chose to film for what reasons. This gave me alot of ideas for my film and i now understand how important the set is as it can set any tone or mood to the scene.
